This was the third time I have hiked Volcan Mountain. Perhaps that is why I decided to hike this peak first — I knew what to expect. When I hiked Volcan Mountain yesterday (3/19), it was sunny, but windy outside. Because I’ve hiked Volcan Mountain before, I knew that it gets especially windy near the summit.
I prefer to hike on the Five Oaks Trail (a side trail that meets with the main trail eventually). I just think it’s more interesting. This time, I hiked up that trail and went down the main trail on the way back.
At the summit, it was so windy that my hat flew off (twice). Despite the wind, the views were very pretty and I found a serene spot with a wooden bench near the loop trail on the summit that blocked off much of the wind.
Overall, it was a great hike. With the Five Oak Trail, I hiked a total of 5.5 miles.
