We made great pacing with our 6 hrs hike (7:30-1:30) in late Apr, grasses are still green with wildflowers blooming. Also saw lots of poison oaks on the trails.
Saw amazing views on both sides – East side had the majestic Blue Ridge, West side had mountains peeking through “smoky” fog/clouds.
Also saw various animals: roadrunner, turkeys, quails, turkey vultures, various butterflies, deers.
The numerous steep hills that goes straight up were challenging, my hiking stick came in handy. Happy it was not too hot today since much of the trail were exposed to full sun. I cannot imagine hiking this in Summer time.
The biggest adventure for us today was wading through Middle Fork Coyote Creek bare feet, with deepest part at 2 feet. Felt real nice to put on my warm wool socks after the cold shock. We also filtered water at this creek.
