Oh boy, this was a slog. Don’t let the low elevation fool you, this is a tough one! I wanted to quit so many times: I was hot, I was tired, the horseflies were swarming and biting, and I was low on water… but I stuck to it (thanks to my husband sticking with me for company), and summited my 6th peak! We totaled 15.7 miles by taking the trail up, and the road down.
As tough as it was, so many flowers were in bloom along the way, and it was extremely pretty! The NPS volunteer at the top was friendly and generous, giving us extra water and some facts about the area.
Watch for snakes – we didn’t see any big ones, but saw a baby garter and a baby rattle on the road. Lots of lizards and mice, too!
