Hello! I am new here and this is my first post, but I am excited about this motivational Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. The drive up to the trailhead was beautiful with Lake Elsinore visible on the way up, and snowy mountains in the background. The trailhead is located next to a candy shop, and you are in biker territory! I loved seeing all the Harleys and the biker bars going through the Cleveland National Forest. I would love to go back and check them out (pretend I'm cool).
The trail itself is pretty narrow. A lot of oak trees abound and we didn't encounter any poison oak on the trail although I read its around. I am used to hiking the more dry region of the Pasadena Mountains, so the abundant greenery was a treat. There were all kinds of trees and plants so tall that your visibility is down while you are hiking up. Elevation was very small almost the entire way there until you get to the peak. While you are hiking, the path narrows and it looks like you are going up a river way even though there is little to no water. There are points where we balanced on pieces of ground to keep going because the path is uneven. But this is a fun, easy experience.
The people on the hike were really nice, and especially during Covid its great to be around calm, enjoyable individuals. Everyone seemed respectful about wearing masks and keeping distance.
At the top of the peak you can see Catalina and I think the Channel Islands. There was fog coming from the beach, so the ships looked like they were floating in the clouds. It was surreal!
