Went on a little adventure today. Peak #1 of the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge 2022 – Sawmill Mountain. Actually did Mount Pinos, Sawmill Mountain, and Grouse Mountain. Known as the 3-2-1 Challenge…3 peaks, 2 counties, 1 day! The weather was absolutely beautiful, about 45 degrees F. There were multiple signs on the way up that warned of icy roads and required chains. There was snow everywhere except the road and no ice either. Slight overcast kept the sun at bay. There was still a lot of snow on the ground, so micro spikes are highly recommended. The path to Sawmill was highly travelled and well packed, making the hike fast and enjoyable. From Sawmill to Grouse was far less travelled, so I had to do some post holing and delicate navigating. Unfortunately, there were no animal sightings. I had the trail to myself the whole time. All in all, 10.5 miles in 4 1/2 hours, 2113 ft elevation gain.
