There are two types of people that summit Mt. Baden-Powell:
1) They feel accomplished reaching the summit, admire the views from a 9,406′ HPS peak, and then head down.
2) They reach the top, think to themselves, “I want to do that again, but harder, and bag another HPS peak along the way.” They then traverse the summit and descend the south ridge all the way until the ridge terminates at the summit of Ross Mountain 3 miles and 2,000 vertical feet below. Finally, the return trip means a double traverse of Mt. Baden-Powell before finally finishing their journey.*
You can guess which one I was today. ???? The trip to Ross Mountain, while beautiful, was steep and slow. The summit offered a cool view looking up at the summit of Mount Baden-Powell, and a great rest before heading back. . .
And that ascent up Mount Baden-Powell's south ridge was pretty miserable. Glad I made the full trip of 14.0 miles / 5,180′ today, because I don't think I'll be signing the Ross Mountain register every again.
Mount Baden-Powell and Ross Mountain make 39 and 40 on the HPS for me.
