We started at 5:45 AM in an effort to beat the heat. It was still hot but not unbearable. The bugs were out of control! I’m so glad we didn’t take the fire road straight up. Taking the azalea Springs Trail gave us beautiful views which helped distract from the bugs. We camped for the weekend so we could get an early start and I think that was really smart. My daughter even brought up and prepared a beautiful charcuterie table for us for a post hike dinner.
