Wow! This hike is the pinnacle of the 6th Peak for me! It was challenging and it was hot! Very exposed trail, bring lots of water, I carried a 2.5 liter bladder and threw in a 1.5 extra one which I ended up sharing for the way down for our group. We are a group of 60+age women in great shape but the scrambling at the top ended up slowing us down quite a bit. BUT, you just want to get up there !!! Follow the cairns at the top of the trail for the best route and enjoy the scramble to the Quartz…….it's BEAUTIFUL and once you're up there, you can see Nebraska I swear! gorgeous views all around!
I drove my Taco Truck out there with no problems, but there are some BIG washes with challenging ups and downs. Also, the sand was drivable but I did use my 4 wheel drive and I felt like it was easy going in the sand.
A bunch of challengers out there on the trail with lots of positive energy !! We spent 5 hours hiking and 1.5 hours sitting and lunching at the top as well as scrambling along the way. A very happy EARTH Day !!
