Trails all well marked and in good condition. Good hiking temps and mostly clear skies.
I knew my last climb of the 6 pack was gonna be a test. I ended up tacking on over 6mi to the routed 18.5mi or so by starting my access right at the parking at Welsh Rd / into Sunol Wilderness Visitor Center. Beautiful part of the Bay Area i had never explored. Tons of solitude after seeing some folks on short walks from the same parking area. Lots of cool wildlife in addition to the cows that legit scared me (protecting calves) – a pair of howling coyotes to start, a gopher, multiple hawks and what I believe to be an eagle based on size (at around 3000′). Amazing expansive views including Tam and Diablo. I think I saw Umunhum too? And Hamilton? Great time of year to hike given how exposed. Would be 2x the test on a summer day.
Not for the faint of heart but so worth it….as they all are!
My trip:
24.9mi
