We tried something new and first drove to the top of Mt Wilson in Pasadena for a reverse mountain climb. The May grey clouds from the Catalina Eddy were really strong that day and Mt Wilson ended up being above the marine later, which is always really cool to see. We then hiked down the mountain to Pasadena, slowly hiking back into the clouds, ate lunch at the bottom, and then retraced our steps back up to the top. At the end, the clouds all disappeared and we could see snow capped mountains in the distance.
The reverse mountain climb was interesting and definitely more challenging, but anticlimactic at the halfway point. Now, we are better prepared for our canyon hikes where you first hike down into the canyon and then hike back up. We did this to train for the Grand Canyon rim to rim hike, which we later completed the first weekend of June. Best training hike for future rim to rim hikers.
