Trail head was well marked and had parking. The trail is a forest service road With fine powder cinders and gravel. I had to empty my shoes a time or two. I kept thinking that the service road would end and the real trail would start. The road was the travel. It went from the parking area all the way to the top where it ends on the cliff next to a ranger station. The ranger invited us up and explained what we were seeing on each side. The view was worth the hike. You could see the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, back side of the San Fansisco peaks, and Sunset Crater.
It’s best to start early and bring lots of water. It starts of with lots of shade and tree cover. The farther up the less tree cover and shade you have.
