Out and back run from Spooner’s Cove to Alan Peak. The first 3 miles are well maintained and very runnable and shared with many MTB riders. Once you veer off to Oats peak and then on to Alan peak, the trail becomes more rugged and much less traveled. Some great ridge running sections and some cool “tunnel” sections through ancient oaks and Manzanita covered with Spanish moss. Amazing views everywhere and loads of wildflowers in bloom right now. One rattlesnake encounter. Legs are tired after Broadcast peak yesterday and Alan peak today but I’m going for a. Trifecta with Caliente peak tomorrow.

  1. Awesome run. I live in SLO. I want to go from Coon Peak to Alan Peak. Have you done that? No established trails that I could find.

    1. I don’t know of a trail. But it looks like a fairly short distance between those peaks along a saddle on the ridge. Worth exploring to see if it’s passable. Might be some scratchy shrubs and poison oak to watch out for. I got one photo looking that direction. Might be passable. Maybe look on google earth for any signs of a trail?
