We got a later start than we wanted to – around 7. Parking lot was full and had to walk a bit to the trailhead. Wish we would have gotten around a 5am start as it gets hot pretty early. I forgot about the recent wildfires and it was devastating to see so many burnt out trees on the hike. However, flowers, green grass, and small shrubs were already peaking through, ready to rebuild the forest. Took us about 10 hours in total including stops for lunch and snacks including about 45 minutes at the summit. This was the farthest I've hiked in one day – a little over 16 miles. My feet were throbbing by the time we got back to the car but I felt great the next day. A good lesson I'm learning on these hikes is to go slow on the way down too. It's nice to fly down the mountain and let gravity help but going slow and steady is ultimately better on my feet and knees. Glad we did it but so far I've enjoyed Baldy and Cucamonga a bit more.
