Finished San Bernardino peak (16.1 miles, 4,721’ elevation gain) in just under 10 hours car to car. I had done it twice before and both times were well over 11 hours. I was feeling great on this hike, way better than my recent failed San Gorgonio attempt. This was the only 6 pack of peaks I have summited this year so far, hopefully it is enough for my upcoming Whitney hike.
Clear skies starting out but near the summit, there was a storm brewing from the east. Luckily the trail from the summit back to trailhead is for the most part westward, so moving away from the storm. The temperature changed pretty rapidly , from hot winds to cold winds in the 40s with wind chill within a few minutes depending on which way the wind was blowing. There was even a thunder and a little hail as well. Everyone went down before me and my car was the last one at the trailhead.
This was a solo hike but I ran into Jenny Huang on the trail and also SoCal Hiker ambassador Carisa Hernandez who recognized that I was a 6 pack of peaks challenger.
On the drive down, I stopped by Circle K to use the facilities and also picked up a 79 cent icee which felt great after the long hike.
Btw, I soaked my pants before throwing it in the wash and the water was completely black
