Some fat old guy went back to San Bernardino Peak for only the second time since the fire. This used to be one of the most beautiful trails in Southern California, but now it has a ravaged beauty with skeletal dead trees and bushes. It's sad to see.

The trail is straightforward and relatively easy.  8 miles to the top and it's a climb from the trailhead, but nothing steep or hard, it's just a long walk. A lot fewer people than I expected, I doubt I saw more than 20 people,  certainly less than 25. And every one of them passed me coming and going.

11 hours on the trail. Slow but I'm a fat old guy. A little thunder in the afternoon, but no rain. I had a good day. The last two miles seem endless, and the 3/4 of the mile from Washington Monument to the top likewise, I was wondering if I had missed the cutoff and was on my way to San Bernardino East when I finally saw it.

Started at 6:30 and back to the car by 5:45, it was a good day, and deserving of a root beer float at A&W in Mentone.
