Literally no one on the trail until near the merge with the Vivian Creek trail. Great grade, throughout, for the most part! Nice nap at the top.
I got to use my new toy, microspikes! I might have been just fine without them; the snow/ice was not that much. But! I did not slip at all, even with a test- perhaps not the strongest test, but then again, if the strongest test broke the ice and made me slip and fall and die, maybe I shouldn't go for that strongest test?
Anyhow, they worked great. Took them off when I got back to where I put them on; I hope they aren't damaged by the non-icy majority of the trail, but I hope I saw that such usage was OK!
Also want to give myself some public praise and recognition for my resisting the temptation to hike up San B! I honestly didn't see the caution tape on my ascent (so I took the picture on the return trip, upon first seeing that caution tape), but in this moment of my being a “good boy” I, of my own volition, do solemnly swear that I did indeed decide to NOT hike up there, because it is closed, and despite figuring I could probably get away with it, and wouldn't it be cool if I did? And then now I'm posting on the interwebs about it!
