To start out, we were really fortunate that the mudslides didn't affect the roads going through Forest Falls that weekend, so the trailhead was open and easily accessible, and the trail was in great condition.
This was the last of our Mt. Whitney training hikes, and boy was it good preparation. The 18 miles definitely wore us down, coupled with the elevation gain. That being said, it really does offer some spectacular views. The weather was fantastic, there were only a few raindrops that hit us about halfway down, and the visibility from the peak gave us a great 360 view!
We hit the trailhead at 4am, summitted at around 11, and make it down by about 4pm. The rocky terrain on the way down definitely takes its toll on the feet, but it was well worth it.
