June 30, 2022

After spending the morning exploring Baden-Powell, I made my way up the San Bernardino mountains to setup camp for the rest of the day. Comfort would trump speed and convenience this year! No more snoozing in my tiny Fiat at the TH only to start out all achy on a long hike.  The BLM offers dispersed camping in the area (no amenities) – it was absolutely perfect and a worthwhile compromise.

As always, the hike didn't disappoint.  The Dry Lake to Dollar Lake lollipop is my favorite route, offering a wide variety of terrains and vistas. All the streams were running dangerously low already this year although it was only the end of June. The temperatures were also higher than usual which made the hike a lot more strenuous.  It is still one of my favorite hikes.

I look forward to trying out a new route next year. Perhaps via Angelus Oaks and the San Bernardino peak trail now that the area has reopened?
