Missed the scheduled group hike so took a day off work to climb this one by myself, midweek. It's an ass-kicker. I calculate 11.7% average grade over the length of the hike. It doesn't help that I got misdirected at the beginning and added 1.7 miles. Not sure if it's because of the struggle but I didn't find this particularly pretty. The Vivian Creek stretch was OK and I always love a landscape of blasted rock and white pines, but overall this didn't impress me as anything more than an accomplishment to log. Particularly in comparison to its near neighbor San Bernardino. Also very surprised at how obstructed the view is at the peak – disappointing!
