This hike almost never happened this year. Due to conflicting calendar schedules and the forest fires I was unsure whether I would bag this peak this year. However on Saturday, despite a late start, I was heading up Vivian Creek trail. It was somewhat cloudy when i started and I thought the hike might have to be aborted due to rain and thunderstorms. However the sky slowly became clearer the father I went up. By the time I reached above the tree line the wind picked up but the sky remained clear. Due to the late start I arrived at the summit at 1530H having started at 0930H. Due to my late arrival I had the summit to myself for a few minutes before a few more hikers/backpackers showed up. After taking pictures and resting in a snow shelter just below the main summit rockpile I headed back. Despite the lateness of the hour I still encountered a few backpackers going up. In fact, I had to use headlights about a mile from the Halfway Camp junction. Despite finishing in the dark, this was my fastest time to hike Gorgonio ever, I started at 0900H and got back at 0920H. 12 hour and 20 minutes. Better late than never.
