Wow! Where do I start with this one? This was “officially” my final peak of the Six Pack of Peaks Challenge. Although I have many more to go to accomplish my goal this year of completing the Six Pack of Peaks plus the two alternates, twice! 😉 Today's hike began at about 4 am from the Momyer Creek Trail. My goal for the day was to not only summit San Gorgonio, but to add Charlton Peak, Little Charlton Peak and Jepson Peak. This was my second time doing this hike from Momyer Creek to Gorgonio only I had never tried to include the other three peaks. It was a very challenging day for me. Once I reach Dollar Lake Saddle and headed around Charlton Peaks to the saddle between it and Little Charlton Peak, I was pretty well spent. Charlton Peak was a good challenge since there is no real trail that leads up to it at 10,806 feet. About an 830 foot climb, within a mile, from Dollar Lake Saddle. From Charlton Peak it was down (off trail still) about 240 feet and then back up about 150 feet to Little Charlton Peak. From there it was back down to the San Bernardino Divide Trail for about a half mile. Then it was off trail again for just under a mile to Jepson Peak. I was pretty tired at this point but San Gorgonio was only about a mile away. It was a slow tough mile for me. Just before hitting the peak, I was blessed with running into some of my friends from Hike Beyond the Hills (HBTH). They had summited from Vivian Creek and were now headed down. We chatted for a few minutes then they headed down and I headed up. Finally, and once again, I summited San Gorgonio. After about a half hour or so, I headed down and to my surprise, my HBTH friends had gone straight on the San Bernardino Divide trail instead of turning off to Vivian Creek Trail. I picked up my pace and headed down Vivian Creek Trail with my friends and got a free and much need ride back to my car at Momyer Creek Trailhead. Great hike! Can't wait to finish my goal of the Six Pack + two X two. 😉
