Started this hike at 5:30am, after an hour the bugs were an annoyance and I was glad to have brought mosquito nets. Out of all of the 6 pack of peaks the early section of this hike had the least people encountered on it, but it is Southern California so there were still a fair number of people just not so many that you could still enjoy this hike in peace. There were wildflowers blooming. Although the sign at the start of the Marion Mountain trailhead states 5.25 miles to the San Jacinto Summit, I logged ~7 miles to the top and 14 miles round trip. The elevation gain and elevation at the top were butt kickers. The summit was reached around 11:30am and we headed down around 12:30pm. At the summit I did not see a sign I guess someone took it or hid it. Due to the tram and the ease of accessibility, at the summit there was a group of Navy Seamen (lol) from San Diego flying drones and a group of 3 ladies who decided to sit right next to me and start cooking with a Jet Boil which made it very difficult to relax in peace. The return was a slog as I did not have hiking poles and the heat really kicked in. The water situation on the trail was there was some water flowing, but not a good spot to collect and filter the water. I ended up hauling 5L of water and drinking 4.5L. Returned to the car at 4:00pm.
