We bagged our 6th peak in the SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. We hiked 11 miles and 2600 ft to San Jacinto Peak. Since the hike starts at Mountain Station at the top of the Palm Springs aerial Tram, the earliest we could start was 10:30 am. To be back before dark, we had to hightail it and keep a speedy pace. Despite any issues, including losing the sole of my shoe, we accomplished our goal and made it down at sunset. Even at our steady pace, we were still able to soak up the views and meditative sounds of nature along the way. At 10,834 ft, John Muir said that the view from San Jacinto is the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth! Once you stand at the top, you’ll understand. From the top there are expansive 360 degree views of the Inland Empire, Palm Springs, Coachella Valley, along with the San Bernardino and San Gabriel mountains. On a clear day like we had, you can also catch glimpses of Catalina Island, San Clemente Island and the Pacific Ocean. It’s absolutely breathtaking!
