The snow was very icy near the ranger station – it actually was much safer once you got a ways into it. We did not have spikes, just poles, which required us to just go slow and careful – asking ourselves after every mile or so if we could go back the other way safely. While challenging, it was gorgeous and it would have been better to have spikes. Loved this hike so much.
