It was a great hike/run up to Sawmill. The trail is wide and easy to follow up to Mt Pinos, and then a nice single track after that. The open country up top of Pinos is a real treat. It feels very alpine. The wind was going the right direction, too, so the views stretched for miles. It is easy to see why the Chumash hold this peak in such reverence. Going down and across the saddle on the Vincent Tumamait Trail from Pinos to Sawmill was the best part of the hike. It is a beautiful forest and really great trail. Some Indian paintbrush was blooming, too. From atop Sawmill I could see all the way to Mt. Kaweah in the Sierra. Stunning stuff. A great first peak, can't wait to summit the rest.
