Started around 5am and it was pitch dark with freezing temp in the lower 30s°F, but we were expecting these conditions. Brought my backpacking backpack to test some stuff for our upcoming multi-day backpacking trip.
We've arrived at Pinos few minutes earlier before the sunrise and the wind was wild up the overlook. I took off my buff covering my face for like a minute for a photo and my ears started to hurt, then it just went numb. My buddy's water line started to freeze as well. Decided to find some cover and wait out the sunrise.
Sun came out but no warmth ????????????????
Conditions got a little better down Chumash. There are more trees to block the wind in this section. It was a nice peaceful hike up to Sawmill.
We had the trail to ourselves for the majority of the hike. We started seeing other hikers when we got back to Pinos.
