Reached Stinson Beach before sunrise. There is a dirt lot off Panoramic Highway about 50 yards east of Shoreline. The trail climbed up the Steep Ravine Trail along Webb Creek, with waterfalls, lush greenery and redwoods.
From the Pantoll Campground, I took the trail across the road and followed the Old Stagecoach Trail. I passed the historic West Point Inn (and made a mental note to book a cabin there someday), then continued on to the Plank Trail and the lookout at the summit of Mount Tamalpais.
On the way back, I took the Matt Davis Trail down to Stinson Beach. It's still steep in spots, but a nice change of pace from the Steep Ravine. The trail ends near the Stinson Beach fire station, where you have to road walk for about 1/4 mile to Shoreline, then head south for a bit to rejoin a trail on the east side heading back to the parking area.
Really pretty hike!
