What a fantastic trail, and an exhausting but rewarding day.
Our first time to San Bernardino Peak, and we definitely will be coming back for repeat hikes! Hit the trailhead at 6am sharp, got a good morning light but we didn't get real heat until the end of the descent.
We met some other 6-pack hikers at the summit and had some great conversation while we refueled and signed the logbook. By the way, the summit is due for a new logbook, the ones in the box are just about full!
Even with the damage from the fire, the scenery is absolutely stunning. The conifers higher up the mountain are particularly lovely. The view from the summit is quite something, too, with great views of Big Bear Lake and San Gorgonio.
Next time out we will think about camping overnight at the limber pine bench site and getting to the top for the sunrise.
In the meantime, we have one hike left (San Gorgonio) before Mt. Whitney!
