Hopefully you will seize the day on Sizer and not have a seizure on Sizer! Our MeetUp group traveled clockwise. The 1.3 mile/1500 foot “shortcut” at 22% grade is definitely a challenge, as advertised (I wouldn't want to do the climb in the heat). Cheer on your companions as they finish… they will appreciate the support. Great lunch spot at the top and nice single track trails on the way back down. But be aware that there is actually quite a climb back up to the visitor center over the last 4 miles of the hike. Take plenty of water and sustenance. Arrive early for parking if going on a weekend because there are backpackers parked in the lots.
We had temps in the 50s/low 60s with mild winds on the way up, which was perfect. It got a bit chilly in the afternoon cloud cover and higher winds. Layer up.
Wildflowers spotted included: golden poppies (at the very top of Sizer), buttercup, milkmaid, blue witch, hound's tongue, shooting stars (past prime), wild cucumber, lupine, Pacific pea and California fuchsia. Loved seeing the smooth and rough contrast of the madrone bark on the Forest Trail (single track) on the way back in.
