We live 2.5 hours away, so we got up at O'Dark:30 to get to the Trailhead around 8am. Trailhead is easy to find and there is an adequate parking lot. An Adventure Pass is required for the parking lot. I forgot mine, so I parked roadside where there was plenty of parking. Trailhead is across the street from the parking lot. Basically, the trail was pretty well marked. There were sections of the trail where there was small amount of overgrowth so wearing long sleeves and pants was a good call. There's a small loop trail that varies the hike halfway to the summit. The majority of the hike wasn't bad. Some steady incline but there are flat sections to catch a breath and overall, the trail was green, and the wildflowers were starting to appear. We picked an excellent weather day. Cloudy overcast and cooler temps which is great for me as I run pretty hot especially if hiking inclines. Let's talk about that summit!! The last .5 mile to the summit was HARD for me. There were grades anywhere from 27% up to 37% with bouldering. I thought I was going to die trying to keep up with my friends. I have some physical constraints that don't allow me to keep a quicker pace. It took about an hour longer than the average timeline to finish the hike. At a much slower pace, it probably wouldn't be so bad but still a lot of hard work getting sure footing and hauling your body weight up and over the rock. Was never more grateful to summit so I could high tail it back down! The views were awesome as you can see in my photos. But considering the challenge bouldering up steep inclines, it was equally as challenging to climb back down. Having achieved the summit, it felt like a pretty long endless trail. We took the alternate loop side on the way back for different scenery. I was feeling this hike for a couple days after. I am proud of myself for completing this first SoCal 6 Pack Peak. Next up, Strawberry Peak! Stay tuned for Strawberry Peak summit photos 😉
