There was ample parking in the lot across the street, directly in front of the Candy Store. The trailhead is visible from the road next to the store. The restrooms were closed as part of the government shutdown. I heard from other hikers that people were relieving themselves behind the restrooms.
Once I crossed the road (which must be done with care as cars often speed along this section of Ortega Highway), I began the hike at 7am. The trail is well marked and has a gentle slope, up and down, until Four Corners (which is actually five), when the trail makes a sharp right and follows a fire road before veering up a steep footpath. This is where trekking poles come in handy, especially on the way down if one is not comfortable with a steep grade. There are many use trails to the summit, but as long as you keep going up, you should be able to find the summit. There's a sign and two summit markers to note Sitton Peak.
I covered the 9.1-mile round trip in about 4 hours, 15 minutes.
