I was a bit nervous coming back to do this peak again. In August 2019, I came to hike this with my bestie. We did an early morning hike to try to beat the heat. On the way down from the summit, I slipped and hurt my ankle and that ended my hiking season that year. This time, on Global Running Day, I tagged along with a friend that was training for an ultra. We did this trail as a run/hike. We started around 6pm but it was still quite warm — high 80's. We encountered a baby rattle snake sunbathing on the trail. Other than the snake and some bunnies darting into bushes, we didn't see any more wildlife on the way up. We made it to the summit by 7:10pm and took in the spectacular views and peace and quiet. The weather had cooled to a very comfortable temperature. We hung out until 7:50pm to watch the sunset before heading down. I was extra cautious coming down the section where my accident occurred. Once I got down from that <1 mi scramble section, a feeling of relief washed over me. We came across a couple small tarantulas on the trail as we neared the end. Other than the spiders, there were no annoying bugs unlike my first visit. And not a single person on the way up or down. Trail was in good condition. Very runnable, if you are looking for something like that.
