In true sloth fashion this hike took us from sunrise to past sunset to complete (total time 11:16/moving time 9:04). We arrived at the trailhead just before 6am and started our hike up at 6:15am. We set out to do the clockwise loop. Favorite part for me was Devil's Backbone! There was minimal wind, it was chilly and the views were spectacular. The last stretch before reaching the peak was challenging with all the rocks, but I took it nice and slow.
The 360 views from the summit were amazing – could see all the way to Catalina Island and even spotted many of the containers waiting to dock at the ports.
The hike down was terrible! Had I know beforehand that the majority of the trail is comprised of loose rocky-gravel and had we had more time – I would have gladly returned down the way we came up. I slipped and fell on my butt 4-5 times due to all the loose dirt. We wanted to make it back to our car before dark but alas the trail, blisters and spurs kept us moving at a slower pace than us sloths move. We made it to Baldy Road just as the darkness overtook us, but luckily we had a headlamp and flash lights to guide us safely back. I'm so proud of my Sloth Crew: Niobe and Jenesis – indeed WE DO HARD THINGS – yay we completed this challenge and are only 4 hikes from #52hikeschallenge2021!
