Initially I planned to hike Cucamonga Peak this day. However I got an invite to hike to San Bernardino Peak from two friends whom I met while taking the Sierra Club's Wilderness Travel Course (WTC) earlier in the year. Since it had been a while since I'd gone out with them I agreed to hike San Bernardino Peak with them and meet them up at the Angelus Oaks trailhead. The trailhead had still parking but there were more cars there than when I first hiked the trail back in 2015, a testimony to the popularity of the Six Pack. Shortly afterwards my friends arrived and we started off. This was a slower hike than usual but we hit all of the usual stops: the Wilderness sign, the Columbine Springs junction, Limber Pine Bench, the Bench Rock, and Washington Monument before hitting the summit. The weather was perfect, no clouds, it was sunny. Along the way to the top I came across two other friends who had hiked with me and 3H to Wilson three weeks earlier. It was good. We got back kind of late to our cars at 7:30 although it was still daylight and then the three of us had a meal together at Jersey Subs on Lugonia St in Redlands. One of my friends remarked that during the hike, it seemed to her that the trail seemed never ending – it was her first time to hike San Bernardino Peak. Afterwards we took our leave of each other. It was a good day to have a reunion with friends – both them two, the other two on the trail, and of course, the mountain.
