Fresh powder = great for snowboarding, tough for hiking!
After lots of rainfall, we were looking for a paved trail to minimize the damage to nature. Lookout road up to Cuyamaca seemed like the best option for that. It never crossed our minds that there would be snow.
The ENTIRE TRAIL was snowed in. Crunching through the snow, each step felt like 5. The fire road was icy at the bottom, so we took a detour of about a mile before rejoining. The trek was stunning, chilly, and (thankfully) mostly sunny. Icicles threatened to drop on us at higher elevations, and we saw massive chunks break off of the towers on the top.
Wind and clouds made the peak too foggy to see anything, and too uncomfortable to stay for more than a minute, but otherwise the hike was fun and definitely memorable.
