I decided to make this a backpack to summit Ontario Peak and Cucamonga Peak. I hiked from the trailhead to Kelly's Camp on August 8. I hiked to Ontario Peak on August 9. August 10 I got up ready to summit Cucamonga Peak. This is a very rocky and narrow trail. Sometimes it was exhausting just concentrating on staying on trail. Even a small slip in sections could mean a disastrous fall down a rocky hillside. I had to be on my A game for this one. I was blessed to have a large section of the uphill on the shady side of the mountain. A great reason to get an early start (7:30 a.m.). It was pretty hot on the way down. At one point I was lightheaded and had to sit on a rock in a shady area for about 20 minutes to feel better and let my breath slow back down. I had my trusty trekking umbrella with me to help on the journey back down and to camp. Lots of switchbacks but not terrible. I actually prefer the safety of switchbacks. August 11 I packed up camp and headed back down the 4.5 miles to my car.
A GREAT ADVENTURE. I can't wait for the next one!
