I lived in the San Gabriel Valley for a large portion of my life and I am not sure how I never hiked this mountain before. The trail is amazing, beautiful, and well traveled.
The sky clear & the sun bright. I couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather. A pleasant breeze kept the trail cool the Little Santa Anita Creek provided intermittent sounds of rushing water as it cascaded over the rocks. Towards the top there were small patches of snow which gradually became small snow fields with a slushy trail running through them. The last push to the top was in full snow. I went late enough that the sun had softened it up and it wasn’t difficult to hike through. The view point at the top was not obvious. Fortunately there was a large group in front of me to follow. I walked passed the observatory telescopes to an amazing sight. It opened up to an expansive view of snow capped San Gabriel mountains. Truly an enjoyable day.
The trail is well traveled and popular especially on a Saturday. I enjoyed seeing so many people out in nature.
