I am a teacher at Newport Harbor High School and within our Field Studies program we have the Sailor Outdoor Leadership School. This weekend was our first trip since the start of the pandemic, and we had 4 motivated students out for two nights in the San Jacinto Wilderness.

Day 1 we night hiked up to the North Rim zone.

Day 2 we stayed in this North Rim/Willow Creek area for a variety of different lessons related to backpacking, LNT, and outdoor leadership.

Day 3 we got on the trail around 3:30a, day-hiked up to the peak, returned to camp to pack up, and had some filling pizza in Idyllwild.

All in all a great couple of days!

There were a couple short patches of snow on the trail but nothing to write home about. Other than that, trail was clear!
