We hit the trail about 415am with headlamps. Made it to Moraine Lake area as light creeped over the Cascades. Simply spectacular. Several areas of snow but the person I was hiking with didn't feel we needed micro spikes. We had them, just in case. Never used. The winds were fierce at times and it was cold. We scrambled over rocks and unstable ground. We made it to Lewis Lake for a much needed snack, the chipmunks put on a show. Then the scree scramble climb began. It was a slow steady climb, no snow in the path, but Lewis Glacier hid her crevaces. 10 am we Summit. Probably spent an hour up there. Then we started our ascent. We took it slow. We checked our water at Lewis Lake but we didn't need to filter any. Clouds rolled in and the temperature stayed pleasant. We made it back to the Devil's Lake parking area at 315 pm. Bringing us in at 11 hours almost exactly and 13.86 miles. We had a fantastic day!
