We started at 6:30 am as the sun was starting to filter through the trees, and were immediately surprised by the uphill climb. The large steps up rocks and root systems were a stretch for my short legs. The plateau above Moraine Lake was a welcomed break before the imminent climb. This is the highest and most challenging mountain I've climbed. The climb up is a cardio, muscle burning, endurance feat. The reward with views at the top was well worth the effort it took to get there. The decent was more painful, especially on the knees and feet. I couldn't wait to be done with the Red Mile and then the loose rocks and sand that continued down to the plateau. Highlights; the glacial lake before the Red Mile, the views from the summit, and the personal satisfaction in knowing that I have the strength of body and mind to push myself through a physical challenge like this at 59 years old.
