We started not long after sunrise, two humans and two dogs. We spent the morning hike in the shade of the mountain. By the top we encountered sun and bugs. Our big red dog, Ruth, was able to complete the whole hike. Our black dog, Hopper, needed to be carried about a quarter to a half a mile at the end and we think it is because his dark hair absorbs so much heat. We should have started earlier, taken more breaks, and brought more water. I made an additional list of things to bring in preparation for the next hike.
At 1000 it was 68 degrees, the time and temperature we decided would be preferred to be at the finish by.
At 1100 it was 77 degrees, the temperature we decided is just too hot for Hopper to hike. We put all 55 lbs of him in the dog backpack and Dave carried him to the finish.
