Started SoCal 2021 with Strawberry Peak. Gorgeous sunrise greeting with Venus and a sliver of the moon. Very little ice and snow on the trail. First trace at 2.3 miles, then about 100′ of flat dirty ice at 2.5 miles, and finally less than 10′ of ice a mere 25′ from the summit which can be slippery because of the incline. I did not need to use my micro spikes.
I planned to tackle Mount Lawlor on the descent – and a perfect day to do so – but I got a text message that my son needed help before school so I had to descend quickly to better cell data coverage. In warmer seasons and with more time, I think it will be nice to loop around Colby-Canyon to the north and approach from the west.

Thanks for your input. I am doing Sitton tomorrow and with the weather warming up into the 80’s, I will do Strawberry next week. Can’t wait! Maybe I will see you out there on the trail. Cheers!
