Awesome! It was grey, damp, drizzly, and warmer than expected in the AM at the trail-head. We went chasing the storm to get out and enjoy the rain… and there really wasn't much until after we were halfway down our decent. We started about 7am, stopped at the waterfall for pics, and then up Gabrieleno to the top. Lots of salamanders on the path so we had to be on the lookout to avoid stepping on the little guys. I forgot how tough this particular trail is above Sturtevant Camp, but this hike gave me a solid reminder! Recovering from a low back injury and was glad to be back out on the trail after a few weeks so I felt like pushing it. Got to the top in pretty good time… felt good to hurt a bit on the climb at or near max HR. Took a couple of breaks on the way up, and had lunch at the top at the food court area (closed). It got pretty cold at the top, but as is typical for Wilson its only cold on the plateau, and once you get down off the top it warms up quick. Headed down upper winter creek trail and it started to rain. Witnessed all the fire damage from last year (it got very close to the observatory), and luckily the trail is holding up to erosion with this winter’s rainstorms. A great hike in great weather with good friends and overall a great day.
