Hiking up to Mt. Wilson via Sierra Madre was really nice. You can park in the residential area. At the start, theres a cool small park with a single restroom.
The trail is very well kept and labeled clearly. We still used All Trails app just in case. It’s pretty smooth, till you get to around 3.5 miles where The Orchard Camp is. Soon as you get passed The Camp, the Ascend starts to get a little more intense.
It is a long one, but what’s was nice about this trail is that it’s well shaded throughout the hike. There is a bench at around mile 5 to take a break. Once you get to the last mile or so the trail does get very narrow.
Make sure that once you get up to the peak, walk around and take it all in. It was really cool to walk around the observatory. The Cosmo snack shop was closed, but if they were open we probably wouldn’t have purchased as they are asking 10.00 for a hotdog. Don’t forget to walk over passed the 100 inch telescope to get a view from Echo Rock.
On the descend, you return back the way you came and it goes twice a fast. We started the hike at around 6:30am and we’re done by 3:00pm. Overall, though it was a hard one, it was an excellent hike.
