When we arrived at the parking area there were only 2 other cars there. The parking lot is big with plenty of spots. We began our hike at 6:30am and didn't see anyone else on our way to the peak. It was 30* when we began hiking, which is probably why we didn't see anyone else! I've never done this hike before or any of the other trails in the area so this was a new adventure for me.
I had read online that there are several “false peaks” on this hike and this couldn't be more true! We would get to the top of a hill and there would be another one there waiting for us. This probably happened 5-7 times. It was also very cloudy the day we went so the clouds hid our view of what was in front of us. The climbing wasn't bad, but it did keep going! There was some rock scrambling, but nothing overly hard.
About a mile from the “real peak” it started to snow! This was an added bonus for our group. We enjoyed the California Snowstorm! We didn't spend much time at the top since it was so cloudy we couldn't see any kind of view and it was snowing pretty hard at that point we just wanted to get moving. We did get a photo of our group eating our celebratory strawberries at the summit! We saw a lot more people on the way back down. The snow stopped and we could tell that towards the bottom of the trail it has been raining because the ground was really wet. We were grateful to not be in the rain and got to experience the snow instead.
I would definitely like to do this peak again on a clear day so I can see what the view from the top has to offer. I logged this hike at 7.8 miles (we did get off the trail for a tiny bit at the very beginning) and it took our awesome group of women 3 hours and 14 minutes.
