My hiking buddy and I were gonna take the Mountaineer's route to the peak but as we were driving closer to the Colby trailhead, the road was wet and the fog was thick. It was gonna be both our first time to this peak and of course our first time to do the rock scramble to the top. Due to the unexpected weather, we changed our plan to take the Redbox route.
The trail is in good condition. Mild ascent the first leg of the trail I should say. The last leg was sandy and rocky and the half mile involved some rock scrambling. And guess what, the sun came out! I guess it wasn't meant for us to take the harder route that day. (I heard some cars being broken into lately at the Colby TH parking).
There were several little or “false” summits before the real one. Just when we thought we were at the top, we were wrong. Haha!
We started hiking at &:45 am and made it to the summit at 10:45. Beautiful views at the top! Clouds and fog added beauty to the scenery. We felt like we were in the clouds!
I hiked with my trail sister Patricia by the way. 🙂 Night after the hike, we decided to take on the challenge…Six Pack of Peaks SoCal, here we come!
