Perfect day for this hike.  Temps in the upper 50s so the sun felt great.  It's a slow ascent until the last 1.25 miles and then the grade gets steep and requires some rock scrambling.  This felt like the perfect easy hike to start this challenge off with!  I definitely recommend poles for that last part but the rest is flat enough (though single-file narrow) to trail run.  A woman was kind enough to make a new sign for the summit and hiked it up today (after I took my pics).  So nice of her!

Would love suggestions for the second peak of the challenge – was thinking Mt Wilson for this weekend since there's no snow there right now?

  1. Thanks for the update! My wife and I are planning to hike Strawberry peak next weekend (also our first peak!). Question for you – approximately how much water do you think we need per person? Would 2 liters per person be enough? Thanks!

    1. I brought 3L with me and went through about 1.5L. Took me about 4 elapsed hours (including a 20 minute snack break at the top). So yes, I think you will be fine as long as it’s not too hot. Enjoy!
