Just before starting a new job, I decided to spend a night at Buckhorn. After hiking Mt Waterman and camping on Tuesday, went to do Strawberry peak Wednesday morning on my way out of Angeles National Forest. Started later than I wanted (8 am), but the early part of the hike was nicely shaded by some morning clouds. Most of those clouds vanished by the time I reached the constant false peaks. Did this hike 2 years ago and struggled. It was still hard this time (especially with the heat), but I didn't have to take a break until 15 minutes into the false peaks.
Met a lovely couple of retired teachers at the peak and talked with them for 20 minutes while eating a sandwich and enjoying the rest / the view. I even changed shirts / hats because I had sweat through them both. Hustled my way back down and made it in 3 hours and 2 minutes.
Trail was clear and in pretty good shape. Loved the views from the top.
