As I started my hike at 7:00am, it was a comfortable sunny morning. The shaded forest kept me cool from the sun. As I passed High Creek Camp, I noticed some thick white clouds hovering above the mountains. The clouds got thicker while I was hiking the last one mile to the summit. The clouds shaded me and helped me hike faster, since the Sun would have slowed me down due to it's heat. I almost turned around because the clouds became darker and it looked like it was about to rain. I spent an hour in the summit, eating lunch. It was cold due to the wind from the upcoming rain at the summit. I met a couple who were participating the SoCal Challenge. Fifteen minutes after I descended the summit, it began to hail with pea size hail. It was hailing and raining on and off. Not too bad as I was enjoying the on/off rain and the sound of thunder. Yes, I did have my rain jacket and my backpack rain cover. BUT, all of a sudden a major down pour came down on me! I was afraid of a flash flood developing on the trail. The heavy rain stop when I reach High Creek Camp. The Sun came out as I continue down my hike from High Creek Camp. As I was descending down, the sky cleared. The Sun came out and the weather was getting hot. Thank goodness the forest shaded me from the hot Sun to complete my long challenging hike.
