We started our hike just after 7am from the Chantry Flats parking lot down the pave road. It was a nice sunny day with a slight breeze. At the fork after crossing the wooden bridge, we veered left towards Hoegees Campground. We took a quick pit stop at the camp and snacked up for the uphill hike. At the junction to Upper Winter Creek trail, we ran into a group of hikers also on their way to the summit. A long the way we encountered a couple of mountain bikers headed down…crazy. Upon reaching the fire road, we saw more hikers taking a break. We continued on the fire road stopping a few times to enjoy the view. We were above clouds but you can still see part of the city below. We passed a cool graffiti of a blue fish on a rock face (have not seen this before). We left the fire road and took the path to the right which is the last stretch to the summit. It looks like this section was part of the area that burnt last year. I can still smell the ashes. We reached the summit around 11am. It was sunny and cool. We had lunch at the café. Spent a few minutes at the Astronomical Museum and took a peak at the 100-inch telescope. We took the Sturtevant trail on the way back. We decided not to take the detour to the water fall as it was way too crowded. We arrived at the trailhead at 3:30pm.
